Job Description

We’re hiring a full-time Structural Engineer for our Lancaster, PA location.

We work closely with builders, designers, and architects to provide reliable and innovate engineer solutions for an extensive array of project types. We have experience in residential and light commercial buildings, outdoor structures, heavy timber design, post-frame structures, and other unique projects.

The structural engineer will engage with our clients from the office and the field to provide engineering in a variety of deliverables including full structural drawings, single member design, review of architectural drawings, and more.

Often times, substitutions or alterations to the structural plans happens during construction. It’s great to let us know and if needed, we’ll evaluate to make sure the design still works with the installed conditions.

Wonderful progress at this home renovation and expansion project. An interesting aspect on this for us was designing new outriggers that support a walk out balcony. Each custom steel bracket is packed out with wood to match existing conditions and is through bolted back into existing framing.

Major renovations are complete at this Phoenixville apartment. We provided structural drawings and several job site visit to navigate the tricky existing conditions. Renovations included interior modifications as well as adding new levels of new apartment units.

To accomplish this beautiful kitchen renovation by @tk_buildinganddesign, we designed a 5-ply LVL to support floor and roof above, allowing them to remove an annoying column in the island.

We are riding for the Choroideremia Research Foundation. Choroideremia, which affects our family, causes progressive vision loss, ultimately leading to complete blindness. A 1700’s house needed an engineer’s eye before it’s renovation.
There was an unique feature we have not seen before - in one section of the basement, the first floor above consisted of heavy floor joists, spaced at 21” O.C. In between, floor boards were placed above and below to create a cavity that was filled with a mixture of lime/mud/unknowns. It appears to be an type of insulation for the cellar, but it remains a mystery to us. Historians, let us know.

On June 11th, Elizabeth and I will be participating in the Million Dollar Bike Ride (MDBR) hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Orphan Disease Research Center. We are riding for Team CHM for the Choroideremia Research Foundation. Choroideremia (CHM) is a rare genetic eye condition that impacts our family and about 1 in 50,000 individuals (that’s two people at a sold out Penn State game).
